More photos! Professional ones, this time. We're submitting the professional photos for publication, so with any luck you'll see us on newstands everywhere sometime in the future. And thanks to my fabulous Denise, I'm getting freelance work from other brides-to-be. If things keep going as they are, I might be able to fulfill my fantasy of quitting a life-sucking day job and starting my own business.

We're slowly but surely working on the thank-you notes. First we had Jason's concert, then some freelance work, then worrying about my medical insurance... it seems life is conspiring against us. Maybe it's because we're so insanely happy; life feels like it has to knock us down a notch every so often so we don't float away. :)

Today is the big day!

We're looking forward to seeing everyone, and we can't wait to be married! Hooray!

The rehearsal and dinner went swimmingly last night. The rehearsal only took about 30 minutes because everyone had a pretty good idea of where they were going and how to stand. Denise said it was her fastest rehearsal ever. Afterward, the bridal party and Jason's parents hung out and wander around the museum until 5 p.m., when we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.

The dinner was much better than I expected. The serving staff was extremely helpful, everything tasted wonderful, the room looked great... several guests said it was the best rehearsal dinner they had ever been to. My mom was the only member of my family able to make it, so I was worried she might be overwhelmed by Jason's family, which took up half of the dinner guest list. But she settled in nicely, and they made her feel completely welcome. She was in the hospital a week ago recovering from various ailments, and it was good to see her out and about.

So now, it's all over but the partying! I have breakfast with the girls -- I think the guys have something similar planned -- and I'd like to fit in a pedicure. Other than that, everything is done. I just have to show up back at the hotel by 1 p.m. for my hair and makeup. And in about 12 hours, I'll officially be Mrs. Jason Johnston. A whole new chapter of our life is beginning, and I can't wait for it to start.

It seems missing invitations are arriving, albeit terribly late. So... ignore that RSVP date if you just got your invitation and reply anyway. We guessed at who would and wouldn't come to get a head count, but we just want to know for sure so we can happily greet you.

11 days! Egads!

Urk!

It has come to my attention that at least a couple invitations got lost in the mail. So, if you got a save-the-date card -- or even if you didn't but are relatively sure you were going to be invited to the wedding -- but you haven't seen an invitation, e-mail me so I can at the very least get you the details and an RSVP confirmation code. We love you, we promise!

An FYI for out-of-town guests: The Radisson has graciously offered to extended the booking deadline for rooms in our block to March 5. The price is $109 for a single or double and $119 for a triple. So, if you've been putting off getting a hotel room, book now! The hotel is in a great location just a couple blocks from the museum and overlooks Town Lake.

Our breakneck wedding-planning pace was slowed last week when I was rushed into surgery to remove a troublesome ovarian cyst. Everything is fine -- I started back to work Monday, one week after surgery, and would consider myself at 95% now -- and I'm in much less pain than I was prior to surgery. That's the good news.

The bad news is everything got a little delayed. I'm currently finishing up the invitations, and I expect them to go in the mail Monday, which still fits in to an acceptable 4-6 week window. My first fitting is this evening -- the woman at the bridal salon was shocked when I told her how soon the wedding is -- and hopefully there will be very few alterations. The flowers are almost done, which will let me move on to completing the favors. And most everything else is taken care of, with the exception of final payments to vendors and finishing our vows.

And at least I can be thankful the pain and surgery happened now rather than the weeks of our wedding and honeymoon!

Last weekend, while recovering from a nasty flu-ish, cold-ish bug, I made a trip with Jason to Men's Warehouse to pick out the tuxedos. Jason found something he was happy with, it matches the fabric swatch of the bridesmaids' dresses -- everything is good. And speaking of bridesmaids' dresses -- they finally got ordered and should be arriving on my doorstep February 20th. Hooray!

We also sent off the deposit to our cake baker, and next week we have a flurry of payments to make to several vendors. It will be much easier to save money for that house we want to buy once the wedding passes! But now that all the big details are taken care of, we can focus on the little, "fun" things. Denise is sending us a timeline with the remaining to-do's early next week, and we'll narrow our focus to the decorations and such.

With a little bit of luck, invitations will go in the mail late next week. Be on the lookout, and be sure to RSVP ASAP!

Fantastic Leia, one of the happy bridesmaids, had a write-up about her appear in the Dallas Morning News. Way to go, Leia!

The wedding dress arrived last Thursday, I picked it up on Saturday, and it fits! Now I know for sure that I will be pretty on my wedding day.

Jason also got a job today, so life is good all around. Look for your invitations in about three weeks!

If you're visiting this site, chances are it's because you received our save-the-date card in the mail. So... welcome! We hope you're as excited about the wedding as we are. 87 days from today, but who's counting?

Things we have to do for fear of death: send the deposits to our caterer and DJ. We've had the contracts for almost two weeks and have just been lazy about sending them off. And it's starting to stress me out a bit; our caterer in particular is in demand, and as the date draws nearer someone could book them out from under us. So those will go out in the Friday morning mail. Also to do: order the bridesmaids' dresses. Still haven't done that, even though I should have done it weeks ago. I need measurements from a certain future sister-in-law and then the order can be placed. Huzzah!

We decided to go to New Orleans for the honeymoon. We decided that a couple months ago, but we haven't booked anything yet. But it's ideal for us -- we're not "beach people" by any means, and Jason loves the idea of hitting a different jazz club every night. I'm more jazzed about staying in one of the W Hotels, either in the French Quarter or on Bourbon Street. They're both pretty central to the action, but I'm leaning toward Bourbon Street; I solicited people for opinions, and apparently the French Quarter one gets pretty noisy. Either way, the hip factor of the W Hotels is very high; I've been wanting to stay in one for a while, and a honeymoon is the perfect excuse to splurge, especially since we're not renting a villa in Europe or anything like that.

With the start of the new year, I'll begin preparing our invitations. Glutton for punishment that I am, I'll be designing them from scratch. I'll also be giving this site an overhaul to match our new, "indoor evening" wedding color scheme as opposed to the old "outdoor afternoon" colors. Work on the beaded flowers is progressing nicely. I did so many over Christmas that I used up all my wire, and all the craft stores near Jason's parents home were out of the exact gauge wire I needed. When we got back, I bought all the wire Hobby Lobby had. I also have another partner in craft -- Jason's mom bought herself some beads and wire and has become a virtual petal factory, churning out at least a dozen a day. I have forbidden her from staying up past midnight to work on them, but I doubt that will slow her down.

IMPORTANT: While several sections of the site have yet to be updated (look for that content in the next week or two), there is hotel reservation info in the "Lodging" section under "Traveling?"; both hotels are downtown and just blocks away from the Children's Museum. So take advantage of the special wedding rates!

Our week in Austin for the Thanksgiving holiday was very productive. We met with two caterers and decided on Pascal's (we rearranged a few things so now we're having a mashed potato bar along with our finger foods). We met with a DJ and pretty much hired him on the spot. We toured the museum a couple times and started laying things out in our heads. We took care of all the rentals -- tables, linens, chairs, altar decorations, etc. We spent a lot of time with Denise going over what's left to be done. We didn't get to meet with Ashley, but we didn't really need to either. And we didn't get to meet with our cake baker -- she went into labor the morning of our tasting. I'm hoping I can make a solo trip to Texas in late January to meet her; it will also give the girls in Dallas a chance to throw a joint shower for Karen, Lyn and me.

This weekend we've been working on our much-delayed save-the-date cards. I spent a lot of time fudging with the design and then scrapped it and went in a different direction. Jason hasn't been feeling well today, but he did help out by sending the files to our inkjet printing, trimming them out, and punching star-shaped holes into each one. I'll post a photo somewhere soon. I've been handling all the addressing, and hopefully we'll be done tomorrow and can mail them Monday. Woo-hoo!

We've also gotten back on the beaded-flower train after taking a break for a couple weeks. I need to sit down and calculate exactly how many flowers we'll need so we know how many petals to make. Right now we're just making all the petals; we'll assemble everything later. It's much easier for us to break it into assembly-line-style chunks. I also need to order more beads from Fire Mountain Gems; I think I'm covered as far as wire and stems go, for the time being.

Friday, we head to California for Christmas. I'll get to hang with my future in-laws and go over every minute detail, and hopefully Jason and his best man will get a chance to look a tuxedos. We're probably going to use Men's Warehouse since they're nationwide and the groomsmen are scattered coast to coast. We stopped into one of their stores while we were wandering around Lakeline Mall over the holiday, and Jason already has a style pretty much picked out.

To do next week: Order bridesmaids' dresses! I've been slackin'.

As we head toward the holidays, wedding plans are steaming right along. We paid the deposit for the Children's Musuem; the wedding will begin at around 7:30 in the evening, and the event manager at the museum even threw in an extra hour since we were using a wedding planner (it doesn't hurt that he and Denise are tight). Even with adding an extra hour on top of that (since set-up and tear-down are included in our purchase time) and paying for guest parking at a nearby lot since it's downtown, we're still coming in way ahead of the amount we budgeted for a venue.

Denise is throwing that "extra" money at our catering, so the food will be excellent (I hope!). We've received bids from two caterers, and they're pretty comparable in terms of price (I posted the quoted menus in the weblog). And I've heard nothing but good things about the vendors, so that makes me feel a little more at ease. Denise is setting up tastings for us while we're in Austin for Thanksgiving, and we'll also get to sample cakes with Michelle from Michelle's Patisserie. In addition to the cake, she'll be supplying a dessert buffet. We're going to have a ton of food -- hopefully enough that no one will notice we're not serving alochol.

Last week we also paid Ashley's deposit, and we're going to meet her as well over the holidays and get comfortable with each other, looking at the portfolio and talking about the wedding, etc. Denise talks to Ashley pretty often, and she said Ashley is very excited about shooting the museum. Which makes me think the photos will turn out that much better. And that also makes me spin off into a totally egotistical dimension -- since Ashley's done several celebrity weddings and been featured on The Knot and in their publications, it makes me think the uniqueness of our wedding might cause her to try to publish our photos. Which would be terribly cool. [Aside: The day of my driving test, I actually went to Borders to look at the Jessica Simpson's wedding book so I could see all of Ashley's photos.] The Mother also thinks we should apply to be on A Wedding Story, what with the interesting way we met and our out-of-the-ordinary location, etc. I'm torn about that -- it would definitely be cool to be on TV, but we'd have to make a lot of sacrifices in the days before the wedding to accomodate the camera crew. We'll see how it goes.

The beaded bouquet is coming along nicely, thanks to Jason chipping in. We sit and watch TV and bead flowers. It's great. Not many men would be so crafty. I'm also making the favors and I've started designing the invitations. Since the time of day and venue of the wedding changed from our initial idea, the stationery is going to reflect that. And since I'm all about coordination, the design of this site will also change, to fall in line with the printed materials. So be on the lookout for that.

Speaking of printed materials, the save-the-date postcards are going out next week. Finally! We've been dragging our heels on getting a decent picture taken of the two of us (we don't have anything too recent, so all the photos of us have Jason with long hair) to put on the front; sometime today we'll prop the camera up on the mantle and take something and get it over with. But they'll be in the mail Monday (Tuesday at the latest), so keep an eye out. They'll set the tone for the fun to come!

You may have noticed that we've added some content to the site, notably in the About Us section. We've also thrown in our registry info, in case any guests and/or friends have a credit card burning a hole in their pocket, and the info for the rehearsal dinner. And check out my sassy bridesmaids!

The actual planning of the wedding is at a slow crawl right now. Our first-choice venue acted flaky about their contract, so we've been scrambling to find another site. Friday afternoon The Mother and Denise are visiting the Austin Children's Museum to see if it would be a suitable locale. It certainly wins my vote for creativity and fun (and affordability; it's way below the rental fee we've budgeted). Once we book a venue, things will happen very quickly -- photographer (hopefully Ashley Garmon -- she's holding our date), caterer, cake baker, etc. The Details and Traveling? sections will also fill themselves out once we can name the place and block the hotel rooms.

I'm going dress shopping this weekend with Jen, practically my sole Colorado girlfriend and the wife of Sean, one of Jason's groomsmen. I've also picked out a rehearsal dinner dress, and Jason and I will be cruising down to Littleton to the Jessica McClintock boutique to scope it out; I purchased a dress from Holy Molie, but it's a little two casual for a dressy sit-down dinner so I'll use it for a bridal shower or something instead. And at some point I'll be dragging Jason to a tux place with fabric swatches to find suits for the men in the wedding party. With any luck, the attire should be wrapped up shortly.

If you have any honeymoon suggestions -- something domestic because we have only a week, and something non-beachy because we're not beach people -- send them Jason's way.
